SWATI 23 OCT. TO 6 NOV. The second Nakshatra ruled by Rahu is Swati. The first day of Swati is in the sign of Libra, ruled by Venus, and the rest is in Scorpio, ruled by Mars. (Vedic astrology uses traditional rulerships and therefore does not recognize Pluto as the rule of Scorpio.) Under Swati, the impulse is all about individual while Mars provides the courage to go where no one has been before. Combining these with Rahu adds further to the desire for success, wealth and finance. Many millionaires are born in Swati: Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, being one of the most famous. 'Swati' means 'sword'. The sword can be used for both negative and positive purposes. Swati carries the sword as a tool for self-advancement, cutting through competition and obstacles in their path. Swati is also the name of one of the Sun's wives. In Swati, the Sun forgets its spiritual purpose and becomes entwined in the pleasures and pains of relationships. For a moment, it is not bothered about finding moksha or enlightenment. The ruling deity is Vayu, which is the Prana. Pranayama or the control of Prana forms the basis of yoga. When individual learn to harness the forces within them, they are able to control life. The yogis believe that we are going to live a certain number of breaths rather than a number of years. The mastery of this breath gives the yogis the ability to control the duration of their lives. Prana disciplines the mind; practice of pranayama gives the ability to control the wavering mind.
